Procedure

We will try to make two types of beetles; an oval one and a rounder one. The keratinous wing casing will be created using rocaille
“ribs” strung on a wire. Connect a loop to the wire. String the given number of R7. Shape them in an arch. Cut the wire about 0.80 - 1 cm from the rocailles. Connect the final loop. Both the loops, the beginning and the end one, are now in a single plane.

Step 1

Linking

Grasp the wire between the points of the needle nose pliers, as close as possible to points. Twist the wire around the point. Once the loop has been completed, gently pull the pliers back. The wire should break immediately beneath the loop. The loop should be in the centre above the remaining wire. It can be straightened using the flat nose pliers.

Step 2

The round beetle

Working from the beetle’s abdomen forward: the 1st rib – 6x, the 2nd rib – 8x, the 3rd rib – 10x, the 4th, 5th and 6th ribs – 12x, the 7th rib – 10x, the 8th rib – 8x.
Start with 2x R7. Add a 6 mm bead and 1x R7. String the ribs onto the wire. String the loops with 1x R7 between them. The abdomen consists of 6x R7. Twist the wire. String the end loops of the ribs with 1x R7 between each of them. Finish with 1x R7, a 6 mm bead and 2x R7. Put both ends of the wire together. Twist them together two or three times. Tighten them as much as possible. Create the antennae. Cut off the wires about 2 cm from the twist. Connect the loops to them.

Step 3

The oval beetle

Working from the beetles abdomen forward: the 1st rib – 6x, the 2nd rib – 8x, the 3rd to 7th ribs – 10x, the 8th rib – 8x, the 9th rib – 6x.
Start with 2x R7, the 6 mm bead and 1x R7. String the ribs onto the wire. String the loops with 1x R7 between them. The abdomen consists of 6x R7. Twist the wire. String the end loops of ribs with 1x R7 between then. Finish it off with 1x R7, a 6 mm bead and 2x R7. Put the ends of the wires together and twist them two or three times as tightly as possibly. Cut the wires about 2 cm from the twist. Link the loops to them.
