Material

An earring butterfly clasp with a flat round surface with a diameter of 6-7 mm; for earrings - a stopper on the point of the clasp (rubber or metal); for the lapel pin – a cover for the point from a broach pin; a 14 mm or longer eye pin; a small oval (around 3 x 2 mm to 3.5 x 2.5 mm)

Tools

A 0.20-0.25 mm nylon line; a thin needle (there may also be two); scissors; needle-nose pliers (or pliers with a rounded point and snipping pliers); flat-nose pliers; glue for unabsorbent materials (for example, epoxide two-component 5-minute glue)

Procedure

Step 1

String the PB onto an eye pin. The protruding wire should be about 8 mm long. Adjust the length using the snipping pliers. Grasp the ends of the wire between the ends of the points of the round-nose pliers. Twist the end around the point. Once the eye has been closed, gently move back and twist the wire along the edge of the hole. Hang the oval in the eye using the flat-nose pliers.

Step 2

String 70-80 cm of line onto the needle. If you have two needles, you can string them onto both ends of the line.

String 2x R onto one end of the line. Thread the line through the first R one more time. Repeat this procedure three more times. You will have a total of four pairs of R.

String 10x R onto one end of the line. Thread the line through them one more time. Do the same on the other end of the line.

Thread both ends through the lower 2x R from the initial pair of R: one from the left and the second from the right. String 2x R and pass the second end of the line through them from the other side.

String 2x R. Thread the line through 1x R from Step 5. Repeat this procedure on the other end of the line.

Thread the line through the R added in Step 6 one more time. String an oval and thread the line through the lower 1x R.

String 5x R. Omit the last one and return the line back through the remaining four. Thread the line through 1x R and the lower and upper R from the first pair of R in Step 3. Tie off the end with a double knot. Carefully pull the ends into the surrounding R.

Apply glue to the centre of the bow and the surface of the butterfly clasp. Press them together and let them dry. Then add the stopper to the point.

You can create a pair of earrings and a lapel pin for your partner. In that case, use a broach pin cover on the butterfly clasp pin.
