A necklace with Charlotte bead balls

You will always stand out with a distinctive, original piece of jewellery which you have made yourself. We present a tutorial for the creation of a necklace with small balls sewn around with fine cut rocailles in a small size (13/0) which we call Charlotte beads. The process of sewing around the balls requires patience, but the result is well worth it. The combination of charlotte beads and rocailles in varying sizes will enable you to achieve an interesting effect. The use of a hollow lattice tube is also impressive. The crystal rocailles look like small precious stones inside it. As such, your piece of jewellery will be suitable for even the most celebratory of occasions.
Don’t hesitate to try out your own patterns when sewing around the balls and you can also supplement the necklace with earrings or a bracelet. Make use of the wide range of colours and sizes of the beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads range.

We wish you much patience and enjoyment during your beadwork with beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads brandTM.

Step 1

The balls
Create a total of seven different balls. Use a peyote stitch when sewing them. Start with the basic circle. Regularly add 6x Charlotte beads in several rows. The individual rows interlock. Sew two hemispheres, one with 15 rows and the second with 14 rows. Place a 14 mm ball (FPB) inside. Check the intersection point of the ball’s hole and the holes in the hemispheres. String them onto a rigid rod, for example a thick needle, then place them together and sew them up. After sewing them up, move the needle to the remainder of the line from the second hemisphere and tie three simple knots. Pull the ends into the surrounding Charlotte beads. Pull the beginnings of the lines into the holes in the balls by the initial circle
