Figures made using beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ brand
The beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ brand offer so many creative and even playful uses. For example, you can spend these summer holidays making fun "Happy Joe" figures. PRECIOSA ORNELA presents a tutorial on how to make them. You can use the PRECIOSA Ripple™ and PRECIOSA Pip™ pressed beads and PRECIOSA Forget-Me-Not from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ brand.
The round PRECIOSA Ripple™ bead in the 12 mm size has a centrally located hole and a double-sided rippled surface. The rippled surface livens up decorations in both its matt and gloss finishes. The central location of the hole means that this bead combines well when strung or embroidered with seed beads or smaller fire polished beads or, as in this case, with another flat and bilaterally symmetrical bead in the shape of a forget-me-not.

10 cm eye pins or a wire (2x); a 4 cm chain (1x); connecting rings (4x); a carabiner for hanging (1x); Nymo thread or a line; a sewing needle; scissors; needle nose pliers and snipping pliers
The creation of the "Happy Joe" pendant uses the linking, wrapped loop and sewing techniques. Production is not difficult and even a beginner can manage it with ease.
First create the head - string 1x 3 mm pressed bead as the neck, the ceramic bead with the face and 1x Rip and 1x Pig as the hat on an eye pin in the central link of the chain which will represent the arms. String 3x Rip on the second eye pin – they will form the striped T-shirt on the body (fig. no. 1).
fig. no. 1
String 3x P on two joining rings as the hands. String the rings onto the end of the chains and close them (fig. no. 2). Create a wrapped loop on the hat using the needle nose pliers (fig. no. 3).

fig. no. 3
Also finish the second eye pin with a Rip using a wrapped loop. Snip off any excess wire (fig. no. 4).
fig. no. 4
Figure no. 5 shows how you can put the Happy Joe figure together and then join the individual parts. Attach a ring with a carabiner on the wrapped loop on the hat for hanging.
fig. no. 5
Connect the body with the head using another ring – make sure that the wrapped loop is down in the place where the legs will be. The sewn legs will not pull out of a wrapped loop as easily as they might have done from an ordinary loop (fig. no. 6).
fig. no. 6
Now sew on the legs. Tie the thread onto the wrapped loop, string R10 onto a length of ca 2.5 cm, insert the needle into the single hole of the Ch from the upper section, insert the needle from the bottom upwards again and add 3x R10. Pass the thread through all the other beads back to the knot on the wrapped loop (fig. no. 7).
fig no. 7
Sew the second leg in the same way. You can play with the colours of the beads to create socks and trousers. This will make the work all the more fun. When both legs have been sewn, carefully sew the thread in and cut it off (fig. no. 8).
fig no. 8
And now you have a Happy Joe figure, the work is finished (fig. no. 9). You can also make Joe a friend, Josephine. Just use a PRECIOSA Forget-Me-Not in a Solgel color instead of the Pig and also sew a skirt from PRECIOSA Rocailles in Solgel colors.
