Adéla Oborníková, a student at the Železný Brod Glass School, has created the piece for her school leaving examination in an original way. She combined the traditional method of winding glass figures over a gas burner with modern techniques: the fusing and slumping glass. The “Frog Bowls” received the GRAND PRIX in the Student Design 2013 competition.
A competition for the best “Student Design” is held every year under the patronage of the Association of Schools with an Applied Arts Orientation. This year, Adéla Oborníková’s “Frog Bowls” scored highest in the eyes of the jury from among the very strong competition of more than 130 works by students from 16 schools. The 4th year student at the Železný Brod Glass School received the GRAND PRIX.
The original “Frog Bowls” were created at the Department of Technical-Decorative Glass and Glass Figurine Creation under the artistic guidance of Mgr. A. Jan Hásek and the workshop teacher Jana Makalová. The bowls are not only remarkable from both a creative and a technological point of view. The basic raw material for the realisation of the bowls was lamp glass rods made by PRECIOSA ORNELA. The student combined the traditional method of winding glass figures over a gas burner and modern technology, the fusing and slumping of glass, in an original way. The realisation of the piece was successfully completed thanks to cooperation with Studio Lhotský, which has invaluable experience in this field.
After the success of her piece, Adéla also used the same technology when creating the piece for her school leaving examination. The untraditional interior shade made from orange glass and inspired by the signs of the zodiac received the Glass School Principal’s Prize.
Preciosa Ornela wishes all the students much success and thanks them for using products from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Glass brand.
