The 2013 Crystal Champion

Czech seed beads in the 6th annual Crystal Champion competition for young designers

PRECIOSA, a.s. announced the 6th annual “Preciosa Prize – 2013 Crystal Champion” in cooperation with the Museum of Costume Jewellery and with the support of the Czech Glass Association. Strengthening of the company’s cooperation with students and graduates from universities and technical and artistic secondary schools and the subsequent presentation of their work to the public.

Preciosa is celebrating the 65th anniversary of its establishment in 2013. The theme for the 6th annual Crystal Champion competition for young designers was therefore chosen with this exceptional year in mind.

CRYSTAL MEMORY – INFINITE GLASS MAGIC

The competitors could draw inspiration from the rich past and from the moods of ancient times, but at the same time there was also a call to look for new “crystal paths” leading to the discovery of the infinite magic of this refined material and attempts to find their own “crystal path” of light, colourful enchantment and infinite beauty and utility. The following theme was declared in the Preciosa Ornela category:

Unique seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads brand.

Competitors who decided to work on this theme were able to create a graphic design for promotional material for a campaign in the form of posters, fliers, videos or advertising materials. This time, the category was completely occupied by students from the Applied Arts Secondary School and the Specialist Upper Secondary School in Turnov. They set out their ideas for the promotion of the current new products and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads brand in their graphic designs. A professional jury chose the winning design for a poster and bookmarks, whose author was a twenty-one year old student of metal engraving, Jan Hladík.

This competition is only open to students at specialist secondary schools, specialist upper secondary schools and universities who are studying in the Czech Republic regardless of their nationality and students (citizens of the Czech Republic) studying abroad at schools with an applied arts focus, as well as also graduates who are not older than 35 as of the date of the announcement of the competition.

The grand finale and award ceremony took place on Thursday 20th June 2013 from 4:00 pm in Gallery N in Jablonec nad Nisou.
