I work exclusively with Czech lampworking glass from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Glass™ brand made by Preciosa Ornela.
Taming its impishness and honey-like consistency over a burner at 1200 degrees Celsius, shaping it by dangling, twisting and pulling it is what has fulfilled me, entertained me and made my living since 1997.
The studio where I work and create is located in Jablonec nad Nisou, the very centre of Czech glassmaking.
I come from a small village in Eastern Bohemia called Ostřetín. My ideas concerning my career became clearer when I visited the glass workshop of Mrs Rychlíková in Holice. Her work – the production of glass beads – enchanted me to such an extent that the decision was made. “I want to do that too!”
This was followed by an application to the Integrated Costume Jewellery Secondary School in Jablonec nad Nisou for the beads course. It was only a twist of fate that saw me eventually study a different course: the production of glass figures.
My supervisors included Radka Havrdová and Jiřina Štrynclová. I owe them for the strong foundation in the craft that I received. During my additional school-leaving exam course, I travelled abroad to present the glassmaker's craft (Austria, Germany and Luxembourg). I later also visited other countries with a burner (Denmark, Switzerland and Italy).
