The glass program

Preciosa Ornela is one of the largest specialised glass companies in the world. The use of our many years of experience and the skills of our master glassmakers in association with modern technology enables us to produce glass and costume jewellery products and semi-products in a wide range of colours and shapes. The mechanical production includes pressing and optical rods, lampworking rods, technical glass beads or pressed chandelier plates. The manual production consists of the "Desná" collection of decorative glass, pressed and poured glass, chandelier parts, technical semi-products and products to order. The potential of the lead and non-lead glassmaking technology also enables the realisation of projects outside the existing production program and this is frequently used by customers who are looking for a production environment for the realisation of their projects. Preciosa Ornela, a.s. produces the following range of glass semi-products under the brand name PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Glass. The basic types of glass melted in a PCO furnace
Pressing rods - ca 700 basic colours, shades and combinations
Composition glass – ca 130 basic colours and shades
Tubes – ca 320 basic colours and shades
Technical glass – 10 basic types
Crystal - ca 10 types The basic parameters and the options concerning melting technology and shaping at Preciosa Ornela
a) Raw glass which can be melted in PCO furnaces and its physical properties:
only raw silica glass;
TL max: 680°C and less
Alpha thermal expansion coefficient: at least 9x 106 /K and above
B2O3 content: max up to 6% (given a low alkali %!) b)Furnaces and their capacities
- Furnace, ca 200 – 400 kg of processed raw glass/day
(an important precondition is the adherence to the time sequence for the introduction of the individual colours in sequence – manual collection or using the bottom tap with limited options for the shaping technology)
- Daily melt furnace, ca 2 – 3 tons of processed raw glass/day
(an important precondition is the adherence to the time sequence for the introduction of the individual colours in sequence) The bottom tap with limited options for the shaping technology
- Continuous melt furnace, ca 1 – 10 tons/day
(limiting condition – the larger the melt furnace, the smaller the frequency of changes in the type of raw material).
This is used for "mass colours" (crystal, black, alabasters, corals, topazes etc.). It is possible to use numerous types of mechanical shaping technology (fritting, the production of rods, lampworking rods and tubes and pressing) due to the option of dosing the raw glass using a feeder (channel).
