a) Raw glass which can be melted in PCO furnaces and its physical properties:
only raw silica glass;
TL max: 680°C and less
Alpha thermal expansion coefficient: at least 9x 106 /K and above
B2O3 content: max up to 6% (given a low alkali %!) b)Furnaces and their capacities
- Furnace, ca 200 – 400 kg of processed raw glass/day
(an important precondition is the adherence to the time sequence for the introduction of the individual colours in sequence – manual collection or using the bottom tap with limited options for the shaping technology)
- Daily melt furnace, ca 2 – 3 tons of processed raw glass/day
(an important precondition is the adherence to the time sequence for the introduction of the individual colours in sequence) The bottom tap with limited options for the shaping technology
- Continuous melt furnace, ca 1 – 10 tons/day
(limiting condition – the larger the melt furnace, the smaller the frequency of changes in the type of raw material).
This is used for "mass colours" (crystal, black, alabasters, corals, topazes etc.). It is possible to use numerous types of mechanical shaping technology (fritting, the production of rods, lampworking rods and tubes and pressing) due to the option of dosing the raw glass using a feeder (channel).

MISTRAL - FLEET MUSE
The Mistral Fleet Muse
The Mistral Fleet Muse, a glass statue of a girl with flowing hair, is the work of the glassworkers from Desná v Jizerských horách.
The glass statue on a base is made by Preciosa Ornela in Desná. Apart from the fact that the statue symbolises inventiveness and dynamism, which are the main attributes of successful fleet suppliers, there were also other reasons for the choice of decorative glass from Desná. They most certainly include tradition and the high artistic quality of the products from the glassworks in the Jizera Mountains, but there was also one further specific reason: the Fleet Muse belongs to part of the glassworks' product range which is associated with motoring. This involves statues which were sold in the 1930s as mascots for car radiators. At that time, this highly fashionable product evolved into a highly collectable item and this is still the case today.
Glass figures and statues from Preciosa Ornela often take the form of valued trophies for the winners of various competitions, such as Fleet Awards questionnaire.
Size of the Mistral figure: 170 x 210 x 60 mm
This figure and others from the limited edition can be purchased at our GLASS SHOP in Desná.
