Sewn seed bead accessory made using PRECIOSA Farfalle™

We offer you a tutorial on how to make a little butterfly, in which you will make use some of the many options offered by this special Czech seed bead. The unusual PRECIOSA Farfalle™ seed bead from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ brand is named after the Italian word Farfalla, which means a butterfly or bow. It is produced in two sizes – 3.2 x 6.5 mm and 2 x 4 mm. The hole in the ellipsoid shape is located in the central narrowed section of the seed bead. When strung, the seed beads automatically cross and this gives rise to the so-called interlocking effect.

Procedure

Use the "right angle" stitch to sew the base of the butterfly's wings. Interconnected "squares" will be created.

Step 1

The large wings

Tie an F1 stop bead at the start of the line. String 38x F1.

1

Step 2

Connect the first 4x F1 in the row. Add 1 F1 and thread the line through the strung F1 up to the 9th "square". Then connect 4x F1 to create the 10th square. Once again, add 1 F1 from the 11th to the 17th "square". The 18th "square" is created by adding 1 F1 and connecting it with the first "square".

Step 3

Reinforce the internal circumference, thread the line through the internal F1. Start in the corner, thread the line through the 1st F1 and add 1 F1. Thread the line through the 2nd F1 and add 1 F1. Thread the line through the 3rd and 4th F1 and add 1 F1. Thread the line through the 5th and 6th F1 and add 1 F1. Thread the line through the 7th F1 and add 1 F1. Thread the line through the 8th F1. Thread the line through the opposite half of the circumference in the same way. Join the stringing in the second corner.

Step 4

Supplement the internal circumference with F3. Thread the line through the protruding F1 and string 1 F3 into each gap between them. Sew the line in.

Step 5

Sew the second large wing.

Step 6

The small wings

Tie an F2 stop bead onto the start of the line. String 26 F2.

6

Step 7

Connect the first 4 F2 in a row. Add 1 F2 and thread the line through the strung F2 up to the 6th "square". Then connect 4 F2 so that the 7th "square" is created. Once again, add 1 F2 from the 8th to the 11th "square". The 12th "square" will be created by adding 1 F2 and connecting it with the 1st "square".

Step 8

Reinforce the internal circumference and thread the line through the internal F2. Start in the corner, thread the line through 1 F2 and add 1 F2. Thread the line through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th F2 and add 1 F2. Thread the line through the 5th F2. Thread the internal circumference of the opposite half in the same way. Connect it together in the second corner.

Step 9

Join the small and large wings. Thread the line through part of the internal circumference and thread the line through the wing to the outer circumference. Thread the line through the 3rd F2 from the point. Add 1 F4. Thread the line through the 2nd F1 from the point of the large wing. Add 1 F4 and thread the line through the 1st F2 from the point. Add 1 F4 and thread the line through the 1st F1 from the point. Thread the line through the added F4 and the outer F1 and F2, so that "squares" are created. At the end, add 1 F4 and connect it with the outer F2. Sew the line in.

Step 10

Sew the second small wing and connect it to the large wing.

Step 11

The middle

Put the wings next to each other and sew them together. Start with the small wings at the 2nd F2 from the point. Add 1 F5 alternately on the left and right up to the 4th F1. Then start the return. Thread the line through the added F5. Once again, alternate the left and ride-hand sides during the stringing up to the 2nd F2. Add the last 1 F5. Tie off the end of the line and sew it in.
