Farfalle

Czech Farfalle seed beads stand out due to their unusual shape which is reminiscent of a ribbon or a butterfly. That is where they get their name from (the Italian word for “butterfly”). The shape of Czech Farfalle beads has also inspired Japanese producers who offer similarly shaped beads under the name of Berry Beads (BB) or Peanut Beads.

The production of Farfalle seed beads began in 2005 in four basic glass types: crystal, chalk, alabaster and black. The original range was later expanded to include the basic transparent colours of topaz, amethyst, sapphire, grey, green, aquamarine and red. A wide range of finishes can be applied to the glass: for example, iris coatings, lustres, rainbow coatings, chrome, silver and colour linings or a matt finish.

Farfalle are produced in two sizes: 3.2 x 6.5 mm and 2 x 4 mm. The size of the Farfalle seed beads is ellipsoid and it is located in the central narrowed section of the seed bead, so the seed beads automatically cross during stringing which leads to an interlocking effect.

Cut Farfalle is a special type of Farfalle seed bead, on which 1-2 small facets are cut on a special cutting wheel which gives the seed bead a special brilliance.
